I'm curious to know what mboard processor and general hardware configurations folks are using these days in conjunction with the audio restoration software. After some back and forth with Craig, I'm rather convinced that some program crashes particular to the use of DC11 are due primarily to plain ol' hardware limitations, and not corrupted system, application files, bad checksum downloads or outdated drivers. One of the PCs I'm using is a Dell Inspiron with an i5-5400> It's only 4 cores, and no hyperthreading, 16 gigs RAM. The DC11 program shuts down mid-processes after setting up and batch-running 6-8 files through some MFs related to the de-clicker stage. I got my eyes on a nice Dell desktop PC loaded up with an Intel i9-11900. 16 cores and hyperthread capable. It's also got 32 gigs RAM, can't hurt. At this point though, I don't really know if DCART is programmed to utilize those enhancements. Comments appreciated.

This system here is a very nominal setup and exhibits no issues. Does any one else see any odd behavior?

I have had random program crashes off and on for quite a while. Sometimes during a lengthy batch job, and often when using the virtual preamp to "level" channels.

Trying to correlate these software crashes with system hardware is very, very, difficult. Along with knowledge of the Diamond Cut Software, a good working knowledge of Microsoft system software is needed.

The Microsoft system software shuts down, crashes, the DC program. You need to know why that occurred. Good luck trying to find an answer to that question!

System hardware options can be important for CPU intensive programs, and I have no idea the actual needs are for DC programs.

Attention group: If you have seen random crashes, please post them here or send an email to us at support@diamondcut.com.

        Thanks,

        Craig

This computer (the one that I use the most by far) is an Intel Core i7 8th Gen running on an HP Pavilion Laptop. I have not yet experienced this. There is a checkbox under Edit/Preferences/Soundcard/Re-initialize on play. That may fix audio drivers that are not getting properly re-set thus causing this problem.

I have a new PC coming, and configured with a high-end Intel core i9-14900k Meteor Lake 3.2 GHz (5.8 GHz turbo) 24 core CPU on an ASUS TUF Z790 Plus DDR5 Quad Motherboard with 64 Gigs PC5-38400/4800 MHz RAM, a 1 TB Samsung 990 Pro m.2 solid state drive on a PCI-Express 4.0 slot, 7450 MB/s data transfer rate. If I continue seeing the app shutting down after loading it up on that PC, that'll pretty well seal the deal for me on likely program/operating system bugs, (I'm typing all this up quietly so my wife doesn't find out and toss me out on my seat).

Let us know what you discover. We are not getting this here in the lab and thus, hard to fix it since it does not appear to be broken here.

OK, so I fired up the shiny new PC, put a new digitally licensed MS 10 pro on it, installed DCART 11.x and ran some batch processes on twenty 45s that I had previously trimmed and added silence. None of the predefined multi filters bogged down causing the app to crash and restart, including the Step 1 Wizard De-Clicker. It would appear that my issues did in fact relate to limited PC resources.

My preference in cleaning this particular batch of 45s is to utilize the multifilters introduced by Marc Hildebrant per his fine publication, "Music Restoration Handbook" edition 4.0. I loaded and ran the multifilters shown on page 154 (Part 1 Normal), page 157 (LP 45 Part 1 Worn), and page 60 (part 2 CNF). I ran batch processes on each step, twenty files average length 2 minutes 46 seconds (yes, I track to that level). To give you some idea of performance using a high-end PC, Part 1 Normal completed in 8 minutes 12 seconds, Part 2 Worn completed in 8 minutes 20 seconds, Part 3 CNF completed in 4 minutes 14 seconds, and Auto-Leveling in 6 seconds. Instead of taking an either/or approach to Part 1 Normal/ Part 2 Worn, I ran them consecutively on all files. The results are much more robust, .as you might expect. The Auto Leveling did address the higher attenuation of bass notes, although some might still consider it overkill. I did all this in one session without closing out and rebooting the PC, as was a regular part of the process using my earlier PC. I did, however, experience once sole instance of the app reloading by itself after closing out. That occurred after I had been experimenting batch processing those same twenty files using the multi filter associated with the Step 1 Wizard- De-clicker.

Hope this helps some of you.

Thanks for the feedback. Your filter line-up is extremely cpu intensive, especially with the batch processor and the auto-leveler. You have some very serious math going on there. Glad it's working out for you!

Out of the blue DCart10 crashes when I am running a long multi filter. I thought maybe the 4% free C drive space (13 GB free, and only OS and program files, mind you) might have been the issue, but a new 1 TB root drive made no difference.
Here's a snip of the filters.

I noticed this when I was previewing some particularly noisy areas, and trying some different things. I've run 6 processes before, but for some reason this crashes. Playing around I noticed that when I move the big click to the end, it will run, but at the front, poof, other positions are a mixed bag. I would assume you'd run that first, then clean up the lighter stuff. I really have not used the big click, usually taking those out manually. This record is 54+ minutes of solo piano, and soft for the most part. Just enough dynamic range to make the soft parts hard to boost.

Is your anti-virus software running in the back - ground? That will consume some of your cpu - - - I always shut mine down during a session so long as i am off the net.

I just use Windows Defender, nothing on top of that. I was monkeying around while editing the post when you posted. :^)

My cpu usage is really low, as I edited, it's the big click filter position that seems to be the issue. I can preview that, but my buffers are at 50.
