Yes indeed, DCArt-Mill is addicting and my wish to make it even more so would be to add, say, three more bands to the graphic eq. I love to see at least another band between 8k and 16k...at 12k for instance. Another addiction would be increasing the top end of the para eq, say up to 14k.

The next version of Diamond Cut has a new routine called the "Spectral Filter." It contains up to 32,000 bands the number of which is user selectable.

I have 2 requests regarding normalization. 1) Normalization creates a new destination file rather updating the current file, 2) An option to specify a percentage of normalization (i.e., 95%, etc.).

Also, how about little boxes at the bottom of each frequency in the Graphic EQ to let you know exactly where the slider is sitting (i.e., -1.2db, etc.).

Finally, how about an overload test on those items in which your settings may result in overloading your wav file? Perhaps a button that you click and then the file would be quickly scanned for points of possible overload based on the settings you have chosen.

One "wish list" area I would like to see would be gain equalize (separate right/left channel) feature. For example, when I record my audio source (analog or digital) to my hard drive, there are sometimes right/left channel playback levels imbalances. I attempt to correct this first with my sound card setting (EgoSys Wave Terminal 2496), and then ultimately with the gain control setting. However, in doing so, this is only a trial and error guess as to balancing out both channels to an equal playback level.

It would be nice to have a feature that could automatically correct this right/left channel playback variances.

I would like to see a batch function to normalize a group of files by applying the same gain change to all of the files, thus maintaining their relative loudness. Similarly, a function to report the headroom in a file or group of files to help with manual gain manipulations without fear of clipping would be useful.

The ability to customize the toolbars like in Paint Shop Pro 7 would be most welcome. Having functions like fade in/out on this toolbar would save a lot of mouse work.

Also the ability to define custom shortcut keys to any DCart functions and change the existing ones would reduce mouse work.

In addition to the existing scroll bar slider and arrows, I would like to see a set of customizable scroll buttons. When manually removing a scratch, it would be nice simply click one button and the display scrolls 1.82 seconds (for 33rpm) to the location where the next pop should be.

A fairly simple way to balance the levels is to create a stereo wave clone and use that as the destination file, then use the "create wavefile clone" procedure on the original file, with x dB increases(or decreases) for the channel that is lower (or higher). If you get it wrong, just do it again until it's right. The procedure works off the original file, so it erases your mistakes as it goes along, and it's pretty fast. Anyway, I have found that useful.

Maybe I've outrun my wish list, but how about one under either "chop file into pieces" or out of most of the filters that put letters (a, b, c, d, etc.) instead of numbers (1, 2, 3, 4) because when you do a lot of work with long tapes and do processing on a part of it, it gets very confusing which files are which. For example, if you chop a file called "sample" into 6 pieces, you get (in reverse order - another one I'd like to see changed) sample1 through sample6. Then when you filter one of the smaller files, it will call it sample7. If either the filters or the chop file used letters instead of numbers, that would make it easier to keep track of what was what.

So, if chop file called them samplea to samplef, then you processed samplea, it would be samplea1. Then next time it would be samplea2, etc. You'd always know which file was which. Just an idea.

I used to find the auto-numbering a pain until I discovered some tricks. I now preserve the original file. That causes the chopped files to come out in order.

I also name my first file something like "a100". I tend to use the directory name to identify the project. Subsequent filters result in filenames of a101, a102, a103, etc. Note that I start at 100 rather than 1. The reason is because I want to preserve the sort order of the file names.

Now, as soon as I do my first split, I start assigning real names to the smaller files. Should I need to run more filters, all the names make sense. Each time I split, I rename the resulting files. Multiple rename from PC mag helps here.

I would like a way to "clear" the spectrum analyser without having to close, reopen and reset options. For example, to run an average on two or more sections, to compare them.

I would like to have a deThump-fuction. That is a high pass filter with smooth beginning and end. I use highpass to delete thuds which are left from big clicks. Now the highpass generates a click in the beginning or in the end of the selected area. The zooming in and out does not still work ok. Should be corrected.

To de-thump without producing a glitch, one must only use the first order version of the high pass filter (6 dB / Octave). Steeper slopes (12 or 18 dB / Octave), by mathematical definition, have a "ringing" transient response resulting in glitches. Perhaps this is not made clear in the users guide. Will look into it.

Here's an odd one. How about a "delete" function, like "cut" but don't copy the data for later pasting.

Here's why: I will often start recording a record or cassette and go off to do something else. Usually I remember and get back shortly after the recording ends. But when I don't, deleting the extra hour of silence at the end sure does work the hard drive.
