  • Normalize function

I just downloaded DC32 v4.0 (probably will end up with Millennium.) I'm trying to use the Normalize in CD Prep and it doesn't seem to do anything at all. I'm expecting it to run and then show up in the Destination display, but nothing happens. I'm getting two dialog boxes to confirm the task and then to keep it for undo, and then nothing whether I say yes or no to to "save for undo."
I believe this is supposed to functional on DC32 4.0. Am I missing something or is it nonfunctional?

    Thanks,

    Ron

    Re: Normalize function

The CD prep functions act directly on the Source file. Quantize for CD audio will not be a visible effect on the wavefile. Normalize gain will only do something if there are no saturated peaks in the existing wavefile. The software should be fully functional as far as we know. If you want to double check on this, you can go to download.com and search on Diamond Cut. There is a try and buy version of the product there. You can compare the two versions to be assured that the system is working correctly.

      Re: Normalize function

      Craig,
Thanks for the reply. I apparently got hold of an earlier version (4.00?) from enhancedaudio.com, in which Normalize didn't work (I tried downloading twice.) I got v4.01 from cnet and normalize works as expected. I also downloaded Millennium to see which I want to keep.
BTW this is a wonderful product. I spent a long time trying other packages and even some single-function tools for nearly the same cost. I was very disappointed with what I saw anywhere near my price range until I found the Diamond Cut site. Nothing else I've seen so far compares to such a comprehensive, nicely integrated system of tools and friendly interface. I especially appreciate all of the user-defineable parameters in the tools, which makes it a much more professionally useable tool than the cookbook approach usually seen at this price range. Not to mention the documentation which is unusually well written and in-depth. Actually, I found the Users Manual to be an interesting mini-course in audio restoration as well as an operating guide.
Well, I was going to email these remarks, but apparently you work for DC, so you get them here on the forum.
      Thanks for the help.

        Re: Normalize function

        Craig,
Well, I'm really confused now. Right after I downloaded the second time (from cnet) Normalize worked fine, as I reported in the last post. Now, I tried it again, and it suddenly does not work. So now I don't know what's going on. My Live/Millennium demo works fine. I havn't noticed anything else not functional. If I'm doing something wrong, I can't figure out what. Any suggestions? It probably doesn't have anything to do with versions. Running Win ME on a laptop.
        Thanks,
        Ron
