  • Multifiler & compressing wave files

When using the multifilter does the check box in preferences have to be set to enable fast editing?
Also when archieving files @ 96khz and 24 bit is there a way to compress the files and maintain the integrety when un compressing, this is to save disk space.

Answer: Yes. The Fast Editing Preference has a global effect on all filtering and editing functions including the multifilter.

Answer: Lossy compression, like mp3 is just that, lossy meaning that information is thrown away (after conversion to the frequency domain) in order to conserve space. It uses the psycoacoustical properties (masking effects) of the sense of human hearing to minimize the compression on the actual audio. A non-lossy compression scheme (2:1) is available on the net. I think that it's extension is .ape

other lossless compression schemes are flac and shorten (shn). Flac is gaining increasing use; shorten is an older form, but still very popular in the music-trading community.

Both are available free if you just do a search for flac or shn download.
