I need to convert my WAV file to DSS so I can transcribe it and the only way I know how to do this is to record it onto an Olympus digital recorder (and then transcribe it using a foot control). I have been using the earphone jack (top jack) from which to run a cable to the microphone of the recorder but this seems to record a lot of noise. Should I be using the line output jack to do this? I have tried but no sound is coming out.

To answer your original question, you should be using the line out jack if you are connecting to a microphone input. Even this level is probably too high and you will still get distortion, but it may be better. Your sound card should automatically be sending a signal to the line out connector if you can hear it on the speakers. Check the "play control" properties (the speaker icon) and see what options are available.RickComment
