What are the underlined letters in the menus for?

I hope I'm asking this in the right forum, but I can't figure out how to use the underlined items in menus as a shortcut. For instance in the marker drop down menu, some of the items have an underline, some don't and some have it listed on the right side too. The label marker has the L underlined. Is there a keyboard shortcut or hot-key available using L? I've looked for this in the help, so if I've missed it, just guide me in the right direction. Thanks.

The underlined "L" in the Marker Menu may be an error. Here are the "hot keys" (shortcuts) that are supported by the Diamond Cut DC8 family of products (as taken from the users guide/helpfile):

There are two different kinds of shortcuts here

The underlined letters in the menus are shortcuts to that menu. These can be accessed by holding down the ALT key and pressing that letter.
So for example, to get to the L, which is in the Marker Menu->Label Marker menu, do this
ALT+M
ALT+L
So the first ALT+M gets you to the marker menu, and the ALT+L selects the Label Marker menu

The second kind of shortcut keys are the direct access keys, those are the letters or key combinations that are seen in the menus to the right of the menu text, ex:
Drop a Marker M

Pressing the M key will select that menu directly.
This is all standard windows stuff.

Thanks for those answers. I thought I had tried all the usual key-combinations to get a result for the Label-marker command. So today, I tried the Alt-L after getting the Marker menu displayed, and it worked, but only sometimes. Other times it would release the Marker menu itself and I get a little ding from Windows. I looked under preferences, but didn't see any adjustments for that. Has anyone else had difficulty?
Also, I learned today what the Drop-marker meant. I had read it to mean drop (or delete) marker, and not drop one at the current position. So I was adding markers all over the place. Then the light bulb went on and I like the term now.

Hi,

I think that the cursor needs to be right in the middle of the marker indicator (pentagon) for the system to recognize the marker to be labeled.

OK. I think I've got it now. If I call up the Marker menu with the Alt-M and then type L by itself , it seems to work. Perhaps I had done that earlier, but when I used Alt-L , the Marker menu goes away.
