I was born in the "30's" and I remember how the music sounded on the Wurlitzer Juke Boxes in the bars, and this is what I try to achieve; I try to bring out the Bass for "Bull Fiddles", the raise the Treble for the "Bluegrass Fiddles" (violins) and sometimes the voice frequencies need a little "tweaking".
I don't use the "numbers" when I do the equalizing; I use my ears only. You have had to "be there" (with the right amount of beer), to re-do "Shanty In Old Shanty Town", "I'll Have a Blue Christmas" and "Soldiers Last Letter". The type of "mixing" we have today, was not available then, nor were the "Light Arm" turntables in use today. I takes me a lot of time with the 30-band equalizer to achieve the "sound of the day". Using the "numbers" just won't do it!
