Konstantin from our German distributor has attempted to run DC7 on Win 2000. Here are some comments that he sent to Rick and I pertaining to his attempts. Here they are for any who may be interested:
------------------------------------------
Since I tested the below on my own systems only so far, I went a bit
further and used a "naked" Windows 2000 SP4 system and tried to see if I
could verify my observations specified below.
I found out that apart from the "mfc80.dll" there are more DLLs
missing before DC7 would really start on a Windows 2000 system. I
went through all DC7 startup messages one by one and finally came
up with this list:
mfc80.dll
msvcr80.dll
msvcp80.dll
wmvcore.dll
wmasf.dll
wmidx.dll
drmclien.dll
msdmo.dll
Does this list look familiar? I can imagine that all these dll
files will be installed in the "systems32" folder when DC7 is
installed. Is this correct? Looking into the DLL file properties it
seems like the first three are related to Visual Studio 2005, the
next three are related to Windows Media Services and probably part
of a newer Windows Media Player than the version which normally
came with Windows 2000, the seventh DLL is DRM and the last one
DirectShow and both possibly also belong to a later version of
Media Player.
Then I copied all these files into the DC7 directory and it will
start and come up with the registration dialogs.
I was even able to start DC7 right from a CD which I burned.
Best regards,
Konstantin
-------------------------------------------------------
We do not support DC7 or Live / Forensics v. 7 for Win 2000, but for those that may be interested in experimentation on those systems, maybe Konstantins observations will be useful.
