I ran across this device that works with Windows Media Player and wondered if it might have an application with the forensic labs:

It's alanagous to the old foot pedal that legal transcriptionists used to start and stop their recorders in order to keep their hands free for typing. It apparently allows foot control of all software playback functions through Windows and includes an applet for stand-alone use. Not too expensive, about $140 if I remember my pound-to-dollar conversion rates correctly.
Just a thought for your consideration.
