    Stripping audio from an MPEG file

    I have an MPEG file that plays fine using Windows Media Player. I would like to convert the sound track to a WAV file and operate on it using Forensic. Is there an easy way to do this, or must I play it on another machine and feed it in analog?

    There's an 'extract audio from video' feature. Just move the pointer thing down when you open the file and there's a list of video formats - one is mpeg. Then you can extract the audio from it.

    I keep trying to get Craig to put in an 'extract video from audio' feature for DC7, but so far he hasn't committed. I would love to be able to see Edison making cylinders!

          extract audio from video

          Where is this filter located?
          I do not see it listed in any of my menues (DC-6 Forencis)
          Video file opens but I get error and DC6 shuts down when I click on save.Do not choice fot type of video file.

            File Menu \ Open Source \ Files of Type \ Video Files

              Thanks I thought it would be simple.

              I still get error and DC^ Shuts down when I try to extract and save as wave file.

                What is the file format? Is it one of the items listed such as:

                .avi

                .asf

                .mpg

                .mpeg

                  I was able to play video with my editor and record audio into DC6
                  and save as wave file,no errors.

                    I have had problems with certain formats of AVI files, but it's been a couple of years since I had any problems with them. It was when I had an ATI card to save material from TV shows. I used different software now, and don't have any problems. I'm guessing it would be the specific characteristics of the AVI file.
