Can't Extract audio from AVI

I am trying to extract audio and get a message stating DC6 has encountered a problem and shuts down.The file is 32 minutes in duration aprox 6+ Gigs.
Any sugestions?

Does your system have the appropriate codec for the .avi in question?

Like Craig said, if Windows Media Player can play the AVI file, then it usually can be decoded in DC6. Of course it should not crash, but that is most likely because of the missing codec.
