Thanks for the help guys. Craig, I'll shoot you an email. i'd like to hear those VVA's.

The pc's I have DC on is a fairly wide variety of configurations:
    1. HP, around 1.5 MHz AMD chip, 384 MB ram, Win XP Home w/o any service packs just as it was out of the box, never having being connected to the web, no AV, screensaver always off. This is the machine I do all my serious audio work with...the one that's connected to my audio system.
    2. Dell, 2.3 MHz Celeron chip, 1GB ram, Win XP Home w/ both service packs as this one is my home web pc...running Panda Titanium 2006 anti-virus/malware and ZoneAlarm firewall.
    3. Dell, 2.3 MHz Celeron chip, 1GB, Win XP Pro w/ both service packs. This pc is at the office. Running Avast free AV, Spybot, Microsoft Beta anti-spyware, ZoneAlarm firewall.

I think you're right, Craig. Something has changed recently on your BBS server that's corrupting files for most pc's...that's the screwey part.

Quartet is not alone -I am experiencing the exact same problems with the two vacuum tube multifilter presets. However, I was able to install the Stanton 500 EQ preset a few months ago.

Ok. Sorry for the inconvenience while we try to sort this one out. Please send me an email to which I will respond with the new Presets. I will send them in two independent emails, one preset in each. Send your email to:

        dctools@aol.com

Let me know if the presets install thereafter.

        Thanks,

        Craig

Not to complicate anything, but I took my copy of the software in to work and installed it on my work computer, downloaded the auto78, test preset and the VVA ones, and all three worked fine. They were a little slow to download, and I almost closed it out before they were finished, though.

I'll delete it from this computer now, but just thought I'd give more information.

Hmmm - - - I wonder how to explain that one. If it is not the bbs software and not the DC6 software, then is it perhaps the method by which the information gets transmitted from our server to your service providers? That is the only other variable that I can think of right now.

            Anyone have any ideas?

              What Am I Doing Wrong?

              Hi Craig,
Thanks for Tube Amplifier presets. I've tried the following to no avail.
1)dl'd presets to c drive desktop
              2)dc6 - Edit
              3) " Manage Presets
              4) " Highlight Multifilter in installed presets/right pane
              5) " Open Archive-File path appears in Preset Archive Filename &
highlighted multifilter/right pane turns grey. Preset archive/left
              pane remains empty.

Repeating this process without highlighting Multifilter won't install the presets either, left pane is blank. Am I doing this incorrectly?

I have had at least one, perhaps two, cases where my connection and a particular web server didn't get along. The one I confirmed is my jazz club's web site.

I make most of the posts on the site. On one occasion I needed to upload a file directly to the server. Our administrator gave me a username and password to do this. I got to the server all right?a home page full of icons to get you to various directories on the server. But no matter what icon I chose, I was in a closed loop. The same home page reappeared and I could never get off of it.

This went on for weeks while we tried different things, all to no avail. Finally, I was able to reach someone at the hosting company. He gave me several things to try, but none of them worked. Finally he suggested it might be the particular server our site is on. He gave me access to a different machine and everything worked fine?except for the fact that our site isn't on that particular server. Our administrator has promised to move the site?no small task.

I appear to have the same problem with the User Forum for one of my photography products. No matter what I do, I can't get on the forum. I'm always rerouted back to the login page. So I do my business directly with the software engineers.

Granted the symptoms here are different. But it is a fact that some specific servers don't get along with particular computer connections. Everything may seem smooth on the surface?everything seems to work?until you hit the one little pocket where everything goes awry. So perhaps that is what's going on here.

One possibility is how, like Craig said, the files are transferred to the end users. I didn't read all the posts, but how does each of you download the files? Is it by FTP, HTTP, etc. The file type might tell a tale. Are the files in binary or some other mode?
Craig, how are the files set to be transferred? Are they in a specific DC Six format?

Maybe the files got corrupted somehow? Or get corrupted through the trasfer?
I know in my line of work as a UNIX sys admin, if you ftp a unix file file through Windows, it can get corrupted some times.

The presets for DC5 and DC6 are supposed to be in a standard .zip format.

Another idea might be to look at how the files are unzipped, or more precisely, what is used to unzip them. Are the guys having the problems using the same app to unzip the presets, winzip, winRAR, etc?
I might have some time tonight so I'll see if I can install the presets on my machine and see how it works.

the DC software unzips them, so that's constant.

                          Hi Craig,
Thanks for sending the presets via email. Unfortunately, I still cannot install them...the preset manager won't unzip them. the left pane remains blank after "opening" the preset & pressing "open archive".
Do you think doing a full re-install of DC6 would help?

OK. Sorry, I had to read the whole thread to understand this. Probably should have done it when I first looked at the responses.
Out of curiocity, would the version of DC 6 make a difference?

Answer: I doubt it. There seems to be something basically wrong and we just have to figure it out. Must be a bug that effects some machines and some presets and some methods of delivery, but not others.

We are still thinking about it.

I had sent the presets to Quartet87 (Danny) via email and he has successfully installed them in his software.

I guess the question is this which I should have asked much earlier - what version of the software are you using? Are you using DC6 or the Forensics version? Which rev?

I am wondering if Dan has the Forensics version and for some reason that behaves differently than DC6. I would also like to know what versions Dan, Danny, and Lord Theo are using.
