The Delphis were first band, formed early in 1963 with a core of 5-6 guys from Linden, New Jersey. the same city where The “1910 Fruitgum Company” eventually evolved. We were formed right on the cusp of the pre-English invasion and persisted through it performing during that time period.
We were just some teens having fun and cutting our teeth playing the music of the day, the likes of which were the early Beach Boys, the Surfari’s – Wipeout, The Ventures, The Everly Brothers and some doo wop, right into The Beatles, Herman’s Hermits, The Dave Clark Five, and The Rolling Stones. We played schools, Churches, youth dances, swim clubs which made money for us to take our dates to the movies, the diner, pizza, by doing what we loved. By age 16, I had hooked up with Pat Karwan and we had a meeting one summer night at my house with Frank Jeckell and Steve Mortkowitz to form the band that eventually recorded a demo of 5 of my original songs that which went on to become “The 1910 Fruitgum Company” which still has a following to this day, especially in the US and Europe.
